Under Pressure – checking your installation!
The ULPower team in Belgium have come up with a fantastic pressure testing kit. It really is flexible and can be used to test oil and fuel pressure across the whole range of engines. Not only is this set beautifully made it also demonstrates practical, affordable and sensible engineering solutions to field issues.
“When a builder calls us saying that they have a problem, it is important that we can supply a tool that helps to identify the issue quickly and reliably,” explains Patrick Denorme, the enthousiastic boss of ULPower, who is often seen out on the shop floor to check on production, and also gets out into the field to test the tools personally!
Using the appropriate adapter, you simply connect into the relevant line, add the manometer and run the engine – and get the readout in a matter of minutes. Quick, simple and reliable – just what we have come to expect from the team behind this engine range.
I asked Patrick why sombody might need to use this tool. “It is usually on first installation that it may become necessary to find out of there is a problem with fuel supply from the airframe side,” he explained. “So, we put together a tool that allows quick and simple testing of the fluid pressures, to isolate where any issues may be coming from.”

SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL NOTE: Do not attempt to install an adapter whilst the engine is hot, and always make sure that you leave time for pressure to subside before undoing any connectors. Be prepared to catch any fuel or oil spills and dispose of contaminated rags in a responsible manner. After use, make sure to reconnect appropriately before returning to use.
CAUTION: NEVER TAXI NOR FLY YOUR PLANE WITH THE PRESSURE TESTING KIT ATTACHED – TROUBLE SHOOTING USE ONLY!
